I’d like to start off by saying thank you! If you are here, then you follow me on one of my social media platforms and have found the beginning of a new adventure! The decision to start new and step away from operating as JCP has been a work in progress, and a work of heart. 3181 means more to me than I can fully explain.
If you haven’t already, please take a look around the new website! I am happy to have a new beautiful place to showcase some of my favorite images.
Throughout the future of this blog, I hope to share more of my background and history, share more about my families and couples, and also share more about my own family. I want this space to not only be a place of storytelling, but a place of facts, inspiration, knowledge, and positivity.
In case you haven’t stopped by the “About” page yet, 3181 is the house number by which my maternal grandparent’s home became known as. It was a sort of haven, to the kids, grandkids, great grandkids, and friends that frequented its doors. Now when family members reminisce about memories they made, 3181 is at the forefront of the conversation. Memories that were full of laughter, tears, music, games, and quality time. The home was located on a beautiful piece of property in the cute town of Walnut Creek, CA. The house was built in 1962 as a fresh start, a new beginning, for two families who were encouraged to become one. While the importance and love of 3181 is hard to convey in words, it has presented itself to me on more than one occasion as the new beginning for my business. Bringing the past and the future together.
So why 3181?
3181 was the first “name” to come to mind when trying to list ideas for a new business name. But surely I couldn’t only represent one side of my family history? What about my paternal side? So I wrote “Georgia Faye” on my list. A nod to my grandfather on my mothers side, and a nod to my grandmother on my fathers side. I stepped away and after a few days, it still didn’t feel right. I toyed with names from both sides of my family as well as reverting back to my own name. After all, I had spent 15 years building a brand under my own name. But 3181 was at the forefront of my mind. For weeks I struggled with letting it be okay because I felt that somehow I wasn’t honoring both sides of my history, something that was important to me.
Then one day, I remembered. Down the driveway. That little door to the left side of the garage bay. My Grandma LaVonne lived in that little apartment for years! What fun it was to know that when we visited 3181, my Grandpa Gil and Grandma Lorna lived upstairs and my Grandma LaVonne lived downstairs. A blessing I didn’t recognize as a child, but as an adult, I wish I have taken advantage of more often.
3181 had brought my two sides together.
While the home is no longer a part of our family now that my grandparents have passed on, the part it had and the number it kept is a reminder of what we shared.
It’s more than a number, its memories.
